EXAMS are over... I'm back and ready to rock you for the holidays!

First off...

This was Arthur Lee & Johnny Echols from LOVE' first band circa 1964... long before LOVE. Remind you of any other song from 1964...? I still love it... pardon the pun.
______________________________________________________________

Second on the block to rock...

An unearthly fuzzed up freakout rocker of a song by an obscure Belgian band from 1968 (though some people list this as coming out in 1969... I assure you this is from 1968!
________________________________________________________________

3rd time lucky!

If you've never had the pleasure of hearing this original, and have only ever heard the Happy Mondays version of this song... you are in for a treat. Not to knock the Mondays version by any means... I LOVE THAT VERSION... but hey... nothing beats an original! So here you go.

Enjoy your evening, friends... back soon with more goodies...!

Ooohhh I've been a bad DJ.

That wouldn't be the first time.. hahaha.
Forgive me, for I have been completely tied up being sick and doing far too much homework. School is not exactly giving me loads of free time for this thing. I'm either driving there, working there or drivng home... Its 160 Kms a day on the commute. Forgive me if I can't stay awake long enough to post some songs.

Never fear, I got some music right here...

In the form of the

The GBO played that song in this crazy movie above... called THE GONKS GO BEAT I bought a copy of the flick a few years ago... can't find it now, but I tell ya... it was defnitely something everyone should see. Aliens come down to earth to settle a WAR between BEATLAND and BALLAD ISLE... the rockers live in BEATLAND and play hard fast r&B and the softies live on BALAD ISLE (as the name might suggest). Yes, I am telling you the truth.

I highly reccomend it.

Check out the YOUTUBE clips of GBO playing this, here:

and if you were wondering if that was GINGER BAKER & JACK BRUCE from CREAM playing in the band with Graham Bond, you were indeed correct!

The Tooth, the whole tooth and nothing but the tooth.

Sorry for my abscence. I've been out of commission all week with a brutal toothache... been on the Percocets and out of my mind completely.

I am still clearly out of my mind, but I am forced to get up and go-go today, as today is the day of our ROGERS RADIO internship interviews at school. So... I've gotta get myself all pressed and ironed, and ready for this big interview.

and what song gets me moving faster than any other song...?

Why its the: James Taylor Quartet - One Way Street

Oh yeah... if you think this is the same JAMES TAYLOR of "Fire & Rain" fame.... you are WAY OFF and need to download this more than anyone.

Happy Birthday Poppy!

To my little girl who is growing up so quickly... here are two songs for you.
This was Poppy one year ago on her first birthday...
This was Poppy on her Second Birthday, which was on Sunday.

But wait...

There's more...

With my daughter Poppy's 2nd birthday this weekend, and an essay to write... I haven't had time to update this thing. Fear not, there shall be an onslaught of rock & roll later today.

Have good day!

Reach Out, He'll Be There...

The world lost today not just a singer, but probably the greatest natural baritone of all-time... a showman and a muscial pioneer.... today I mourn a true musical icon.

Levi Stubbs (Four Tops)
June 6, 1936 – October 17, 2008
The Four Tops - Standing In The Shadows Of Love

and could there be a better song to Eulogize the man with...? I think not.

Billy Bragg - Levi Stubbs' Tears

What a sad week in music...

There is something in the air...

This time of year brings back a lot of memories of my wild teenage nights (and days, but mostly nights!)... and these songs remind me of those days... enjoy 'em... I did, and still do.

New Order - Age Of Consent

Echo & The Bunnymen - Seven Seas

The Chills - Pink Frost

Truly, the last pogo.

Sad news to report tonight. Punk legend FRANKIE VENOM (Frank Kerr), frontman for seminal Canadian New Wave/Punks, TEENAGE HEAD, has passed away from Cancer, at the incredibly young age of 51.

I was fortunate enough to see Teenage Head play many times over the years, and have great memories of Frankie getting completely looney! I still remember clearly the first time I saw them play back when I was 17 (snuck in to the bar.. Shhhhh!). It was a total mindfuck for such a small town... I was completely blown away at these freaky looking dudes wailing 3-chord garage rock at full speed, while jumping all over the stage and breaking shit.

I never got to see the Ramones back then, but I didn't need to... this was my Ramones... and I'm sure a lot of other kids felt the same way.

I was impressed with their relentless touring and the fact that Teenage Head kept on keeping on for so many years. It showed their dedication to music and doing the thing they loved.

Frankie, cheers to you!

ENJOY THESE SONGS... but please go out and buy their records!

What says Canadian Election like some NORTHERN SOUL!!!???

In honour of my first federal election in the North country, I thought I'd drop you a few of my Northern Soul faves that really fit how I feel about the candidates in tonight's election.
So, get out and vote, and when you come home... download these tracks. Even if you don't agree with my musical assessments of the Fab 5... you will probably dig the tunes.

You should be dancing....

So, I finally completed my recording assignments for the weekend... and now I feel like dancing...Won't you join me? These are two of my favourite songs to dance to. In fact, I could honestly say that ONE WAY STREET by Jigsaw is one of the world's greatest dancing records (of all-time). The groove is untouchable.

Jigsaw - One Way Street

Lorenzo Holden - The Wig

Sorry for the bad pic...

Here comes the sunshine!

Okay I'm back at home and ready to rock again... so here's a couple tracks for the day.

In honour of their fantastic performance on Wednesday at The Phoenix in Toronto, I wanted to post some Stereolab. I was impressed how they dug deep into the back catalogue and had a fabulous time seeing them play and seeing some old friends... so without further delay.... here's:

STEREOLAB - FRENCH DISKO.

Now... as another tribute to my Toronto visit... here is a song that reminds me just how much I love and miss my friends. It was awesome being back for a night... and hopefully I can get down there again soon. Enjoy this one. It's one of my all-time favourites by a guy called MAGIC SAM.
MAGIC SAM - THAT'S ALL I NEED

Stay tuned... 'cause I'm working on a new format which will play out like a real radio show.

Road Warrior...

Just got back from Toronto now and I gotta run-run-run to school... saw Stereolab, got very drunk, played drums for hours at the Hoa Hoa's mansion (my hands are covered in blisters), went out for an Indian meal with Femke & Richie and bought loads of good cheese and bagels in the market. I will post some new songs later today when I get home. They will be good, you will be happy.

Song 2

Frustrating Sound by Radio Moscow

Heard this band about a year ago... and I'm still listening the this track at least once a week... its sooooo heavy! Kind of reminds me of CREAM. They are from Ames, Iowa.

This is rock & roll radio...

Welcome to my music blog. This is where I'm gonna post tracks I think you need to hear (and download!). Some you will have heard, some you won't... but I am still gonna post them. There is no format. Just songs I like and songs I want you to hear. I don't get paid for this, and I will probably get sued... but I'm still gonna do it, 'cause I love good music and I know you do as well. So sit back, fire up the broadband (or a bong) and get ready to rock.

Feel free to write me letters, ask me questions, send me music (liquor is always welcomed too)...

Introducing the madness of Geoff Goddard (& Joe Meek). One of the weirdest tracks ever. 1963
